Our Mission & Vision
The Mourning Family Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Alonzo and Tracy Mourning, provides a multitude of opportunities to enhance the lives of children and families in South Florida through education, enrichment and advocacy. Presently, the Mourning Family Foundation supports over a thousand youths and families through the Overtown Youth Center and Honey Shine programs.
Meet the Founders
Since 1997, Mourning Family Foundation has raised over $10 million for various programs that aid in the development of children and their families, particularly those in socioeconomically challenged communities.
How to Help & Donate
The Mourning Family Foundation is a qualifying 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization and donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. No goods or services are provided for this gift. Please consult your tax advisor regarding specific questions about your deductions.
Since 2003, Honey Shine has hosted its largest fundraiser, the "Hats Off" Luncheon.
The Luncheon allows Honey Bugs to demonstrate the influence of Honey Shine in their lives through poetry and dance, making the event impactful and energetic. Funds are generated from table and ticket sales, a silent and live auction, along with generous donations from attendees.
Proceeds from the event allow Honey Shine to continue enriching the lives of Honey Bugs by supporting workshops, field trips and Camp Honey Shine, a six-week Summer day camp that takes place at Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart in Coconut Grove Miami.
